Oscar A. Mendiondo, M.D.

Dr. Mendiondo is a graduate of Buenos Aires University in Argentina. After a year of Medicine and 3 years of Radiation Therapy training as a fellow of the Argentine National Commission of Atomic Energy, he entered a residency in Radiation Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, joining the Radiation Medicine staff at MGH after finishing his residency and worked in the Harvard Medical Proton Project for a year.

Dr Mendiondo came to Kentucky in 1978, when he joined the University of Kentucky Radiation Medicine Department. In his five year stay at UK he pioneered the technique for endobronchial brachytherapy and combinations of chemotherapy and radiation therapy for different malignancies. Dr. Mendiondo left UK for a private practice in 1983 and has since dedicated to personally care for cancer patients.

Dr. Mendiondo has a special interest in the care of advanced cancer patients and in the psychosocial aspects of cancer care. He joined the group of Medical Associates of Hospice of the Bluegrass over 14 years ago and he introduced a Social Worker and psychosocial assessments to his private practice in 1996. Dr. Mendiondo is particularly interested in the treatment of male genitourinary malignancies.

Jacqueline Matar, M.D.

Dr. Matar is a native Kentuckian. She grew up in several towns and cities around the state, settling in Lexington for college. She graduated with honors, and then attended the University of Kentucky for medical school. Dr. Matar then completed a residency in Radiation Oncology, serving as Chief Resident her final year. She has actively practiced since becoming certified by the American Board of Radiology in 1989. Dr. Matar was initially an Assistant Professor at the University of Kentucky, serving as Medical Director of the Morehead Cancer Treatment Center. She then entered private practice in Lexington in 1991.

She has experience in numerous specialized aspects of radiation oncology, including IMRT, HDR and LDR brachytherapy, interstitial lung brachytherapy and stereotactic radiosurgery. Her oncologic interests include breast, lung, and gynecological cancers.

Dr. Matar particularly enjoys the privilege of caring for patients and their families. When not working in the office or hospital, she has several hobbies centered around her family, farm and church.

Richard Matter, M.D.

Dr. Matter is a Board Certified Radiation Oncologist with more than 27 years of experience. He was born, raised and educated in Michigan. He received his BA from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan and his MD degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Internship and residency training in Radiation Oncology was completed at William Beaumont Hospital.

Before joining United Radiation Oncology in 2006, Dr. Matter was with the Radiation Oncology Department within the Beaumont Hospital system. He has served as the Director of Residency Education and is a past President of the Michigan Society of Therapeutic Radiology.

Academically, Dr. Matter has published peer-reviewed articles on breast, colon and urologic malignancies, brachytherapy and emerging new technologies such as the use of the multileaf collimator, IMRT and IGRT. He has presented papers and been a guest speaker at local, national and international meetings regarding LDR and HDR brachytherapy and IGRT.

Clinically, Dr Matter has experience in all adult solid tumors and has a special interest in breast, prostate, lung, head and neck cancers.
